The USS Atlantis, assigned to locate and retrieve the missing USS Birnam, arrived at the missing ship's last-known co-ordinates. There was no sign of the Birnam, but there was a faint, masked warp trail that could be the Birnam's. The Atlantis pursued and, by jumping to transwarp for a few moments, managed to get in visual range of the Birnam.
The crew of the Birnam, still under the influence of Lennox' and Dobin's mind control, continued to believe that the Lysian central command had to be destroyed and that all Starfleet vessels had been taken over by Lysians. They believed their mission to destroy the Lysians central command was of the utmost importance, and they refused to surrender to the Atlantis. A fire fight ensued, in which the crew of the Atlantis, using the Birnam's prefix codes, forced the other ship out of warp and lowered its shields. Boarding parties were beamed aboard with orders to take over Engineering and the battle bridge, while Captain Torn contacted Captain Krella to try to reason with her.
