The signal was sent, but the Adjudicators had already surrounded the Away Team. To make matters worse, the Acebi realised that the Away Team were not who they claimed to be. Their blood had a different colour. They found out that the members of the Away Team were, in fact, alien beings. The Prime Directive was broken.
The Gamma Flyer Borhyas, piloted by Ensign Andrusia, received the signal sent by the Away Team, and dove down into the atmosphere to retrieve the team. Transporters only functioned at short range, so the Borhyas had to move in closely. After a daring and close escape, the crew managed to retrieve the Starfleet equipment that the Adjudicators had taken from them. The Prime Directive might have been broken, but the Away Team was safe and no further harm was done to the Acebi culture.

The harm the Away Team did to the Acebi culture turned out to be minute when the next day, the Acebi proceeded as planned with the launch of their first warp ship. The test flight was a success: the Acebi were now officially warp-capable. The elated crew immediately started to plan their First Contact mission, and Commander Velden and Ensign Gambit, who had been part of the Away Mission the previous day, wanted very badly to join this Away Team as well, to apologise to the Acebi rulers for the mess they caused.

With the Atlantis docked at Pandora Station for shore leave and for brining on board new supplies and crew, Captain Torn found time to talk to Admiral Khatibi about the mission to Acebi and about the possibility that Glitch, the accidentally created hologram, was alive.

Somewhere in the Alpha Quadrant, the USS Birnam set out on a mission towards Lysian space. Its Captain and crew are convinced that their mission will determine the fate of the entire Federation.
