Post of the Month: April 2004

The post of the month award of April 2004 goes to:

Rob Versteegt, playing SPC Emergency Medical Hologram

Date of the post: 23-04-2004

(|SPC Emergency Medical Hologram|)
(USS Atlantis - Main Sickbay - 2391.03.28, 1019)

A sigh escaped his holographic lips. ~Why are they leaving me online..~ he
thought to himself. ~Isn't it logical to deactivate me? That would safe
energy, and I wouldn't be that bored..~ Again, he sighed, while sitting in
the CMO's office, reading some reports.

"This is interesting.." the Emergency Medical Hologram said to himself.
"It would seem that during the last upgrade of this vessel, I have been
upgraded as well.." He raised an eyebrow.. something his programmers had enjoyed programming into him.. and continued reading.

Suddenly, he thought of something. Quickly, he raised his hand, and
touched his head. ~Bah..~ the EMH thought. ~Still no hair... well, they
haven't upgraded those systems then..~

At that moment, he froze... still with his hand on his head. It looked
ridiculous, but that didn't matter. There was something... another
holographic program, snooping around in *his* database... *his* program.

~Who is this hologram...~ he thought to himself, and then decided to send
a message. ~Who are you?~ he sent. ~And what are you doing, looking in on my program!~

He didn't like this... the feeling of someone.. anyone, even if it was
also a hologram, looking through his program. It was about the only thing
he had that was a bit... personal.

He still didn't have any idea what kind of program this hologram was, or
why it was looking at his program. That was, until he got a message back
from that holoprogram. ~ You're an emergency medical program, ~ was the
message he received. ~ But not as elaborate a model as me. And you're not being used at present. So why are you active? ~

~Now see here!~ The EMH was getting angry. ~I may not be as 'elaborate a
model' as you, but at least I.. ehm..~ He stopped the message, and after a
little while, continued again. ~I have been left online, after my
assistance was required... But I was being used as some third ranking
nurse..~ He sighed, and continued again. This time, he wanted to know more about the hologram who was contacting him. ~Who are you, actually?~

(Reply Holly)

~An Emergency Engineering Hologram?~ the EMH sent back. ~How
fascinating...~ He sighed a bit, and continued transmitting. ~I had no
idea they even existed...~

(Reply Holly)

"Fascinating..." the EMH said out loud, but then continued to transmit
messages again. ~It has been a while since I was last activated... the
last time was just before the launch of the Atlantis, after finishing some
upgrades.. and before that, I remember I was shut down by an angry doctor, who didn't like EMH's...~

(Reply Holly)

~Tell me something.~ he transmitted. ~What stardate is it?~

(Reply Holly)

"WHAT?" he shouted out. ~But... that's 6 years after I had been
deactivated by that angry doctor..~ He swallowed. ~Holly... can you... can
you transfer yourself here? Or can you transfer me to.. wherever you are?
I need to know what happened...~
