(|Elysia|)
The planet Elysia was charted in 2258 by the U.S.S. Clarion. They reported intelligent and friendly humanoid life. They were a simple, agricultural society with no evidence of industry. They were asked to leave after a couple of days, and they theorized they had had unknowingly trespassed on sacred grounds. In accordance with the Prime Directive, they left. The planet is far from major space lanes, however it may become a corridor between the Federation and the farthest extent of the Romulan Neutral Zone, where Stardase 32 is located. Humanoid life could not have evolved on Elysia, as the atmosphere has a build up of gases poisonous to carbon-nitrogen-oxyde based life forms, except for small regions of extreme cold near the poles. There are nine inhabited areas with Class-M atmosphere. All nine areas are equidistant from a single anomalous mountain. The planet was being controlled by an advanced species that were perceived as gods. They live in a plane of existance where they can view all alternate timelines. By shifting timelines, they can grant all kinds of wishes. However, granting these wishes results in gravimetric distortions. The local population does not know of the existance of outer space. (Star Trek: The Next Generation: Metamorphosis by Jean Lorrah)

It may have been inhabited once, but its sun has been fading steadily for a half-million years. Dr. Korby discovered that as Exo III's sun dimmed, the planet's inhabitants, referred to as the Old Ones by Ruk, moved underground from an open environment to this dark world. When they moved from light to darkness, they replaced freedom with a mechanistic culture. (TOS: What Are Little Girls Made Of?)
