(|Deneva|)
The U.S.S. Enterprise in orbit of Deneva. The planet Deneva was colonized over a century ago. It is one of the most beautiful planets in the galaxy. It was originally colonized as a freighting line base in the area. Freighters make regular trips from Deneva, carrying supplies to the asteroid belt for the miners and bringing cargo out. Montgomery Scott once worked there as an engineering advisor. As of Stardate 3287.2, the population of Deneva was almost one million and the Capital City had a population of more than 100,000. Also as of this date, the Federation had no contact with the planet for a year. The U.S.S. Enterprise was sent to investigate. Sensors didn't detect any harmful life forms. When the U.S.S. Enterprise arrived at Deneva on Stardate 3287.2, Uhura tried every major transmitting station on Deneva. No one acknowledged her signal. Then a one-man ship left Deneva on a collision course with the Denevan sun. Just before the ship was destroyed, the pilot shouted that he was free. They sent a landing party to the surface, where they were attacked by four men. The men yelled that they did not want to hurt the landing party despite their actions. They rescued Aurelan and Peter Kirk, and brought them back to the Enterprise, where Aurelan described how neural parasites came to Deneva and infected the population. They discovered that the parasites were sensitive to ultraviolet light, so 210 ultraviolet satellites were deployed 72 miles above the planet surface, burning with such intensity that even someone in a closed, darkened area would be affected. It succeeded in destroying all the parasites. (TOS: Operation -- Annihilate!)

Dulsinaray's population was arboreal, living in spacious tree houses far above the swampy carnivore infested surface of the planet. The terrorists had exterminated their hostages by setting fire to their tree homes and stunning anyone who tried to escape to the adjoining trees. The people either burned to death, or fell into the swamps below where their bodies were devoured by ravenous predators. (ST: TNG #22: Imbalance by V.E. Mitchell)
