(|Why the crew of the USS Voyager could change the timeline by Guido Dorssers|)
Being a vivid science fiction fan, and a StarTrek fan in general, I think most
of us, if not all, are quite well known with time travelling. And aren't all
those cause and causality problems making our heads start hurting when we try to think about the why's and how's and the flaws in there? For if they changed the history, then we did they need to go back in time to change it? Since then in the future the reason to go back would be gone.

Well, in each case, our the PI's we hired have now been able to tell us why the crew of the USS Voyager was able to change the timeline in Future's End. You know, the episode in which they visited San Fransisco and which gave the Doctor his ability to leave Sickbay. I assume he got quite sick of being in there all the time.

But okay, let's get back on track. We all know that Henry Starling was using a 29th century Federation starship to built up his softwarecompany called Chronowerx Corporation. We also know that in the end he did not succeed in his plan to get even more advanced material by doing some time travel himself in the timeship he had found. It blew up while he was on board.

But why was this possible? Why could the USS Voyager blow him up? For when they blew him up then the disaster Captain Braxton was talking about would not have happened. And hence the USS Voyager would not have been brought into the year 1996. And if they had not been brought there, well, they could not stop Starling, so the disaster would happen and they would.... well, I am sure you can follow my track of thought here and maek sure that solely you and only you yourself are responsible for that headache that you feel upcoming.

So we have a nice cause and causilatiy paradox here, right? For if it did not
happen then they would not have been in 1996, but if they would have not been there it would have happened. So logic dictates there must have been some external influence. And this is where we needed our PI's.

And after it took them quite some time to do their work because unfortunately they were not as good as Dixon Hill, but... it's the result that counts. So, they found out that Henry Starling was a pseudonym of James T. Rothwell, a math teacher at a highschool attended by a certain Sabrina. And yes, that's the same Sabrina as in "Sabrina, the teenage witch".

So this Mr. Rothwell was giving math at this class, but just like we got to
know him in Future's End, he wasn't exactly a happy fellow. When Sabrina asked a question of him and admitted that she didn't understand one of the things he was teaching about, he decided to spring a test on the entire class and told them to blame Sabrina for it. Both her aunts try to talk sense into Mr. Rothwell, but the only thing they manage is to get angry at this Mr. Rothwell too. So they end up with sueing him.

Well, what do you think that happened?

Okay, you don't know?

Let's quote literally then:

----
Judge Samuels: Would the defendant like to make a closing statement?
Mr. Rothwell: Yes I would. Your honour, I'm not a baby-sitter. I'm paid to
teach math and that is what I do. Yes I could be more sensitive but let's face it. The world is full of people like me. People who chose favourites. People who don't accept excuses. People who are 'Unfair' Well life is unfair and I'm just helping my students to get used to that.
Judge Samuels: Mr. Rothwell, just one last question. Do you intend to teach high school for the rest of your life?
Mr. Rothwell: Are you kidding? I'm just doing this until I can start up my own
software company.
Judge Samuels: Thank you. Well I will return with my decision and a fresh cup of cocoa.

Judge Samuels returns with his cup of cocoa.
Judge Samuels: I've reached my decision.
Mr. Rothwell stands.
Judge Samuels (continued): With respect to existential code violation this
court finds you not guilty due to insufficient evidence.
Mr. Rothwell smiles.
Judge Samuels (continued): With respect to the vehicular code violation the
court finds you guilty as charged.
Mr. Rothwell: Oh nuts!
Judge Samuels (continued): But we'll wave the usual forty dollars fine and
instead sentence you to a lifetime of teaching high school algebra.
Mr. Rothwell: What! That's not fair!
----

We now know what happened, and yep, Mr. Rothwell AKA Henry Starling will not be setting up his Chronowerx Corporation since he has now been sentenced to teaching math forever. So the conclusion of our PI's is that in this case the crew of the USS Voyager was able to change the timeline thanks to the external magical influence of Sabrina and her aunts.

We hope you enjoined this timeline case and perhaps our PI's may be able to crack some more in the future.
