» LCARS » Security/Tactical Database » Weapons Overview While Starfleet is primarily an organisation devoted to peace and exploration there are times during the performance of their duties when it is necessary for personnel to defend themselves, from a would be aggressor. Starfleet maintains a number of weapons with different capabilities for situations when hostile resistance is expected. Starfleet ships are often equiped with phaserbanks and photontorpedoes. This enables the crew to defend themselves against other ships. On the smaller level, Federation people have to defend themselves in close combat. All starfleet personel are trained in the use of Type 1 and 2 phasers. However Starfleet security personnel are the only personel specifically trained in the use of Type 3 phasers.
