The year 2006 has been a turbulent one for Frontier Fleet. A lot has happened, and I'd like to look back with you on that. There have been quite some major issues, which I'll put in here.
Council:
For me, the year started off with a 'bang', so to say, when Guido and Clare decided to dissolve the Fleet Command Team (FCT) and instead hand over leadership of the game to Adrien, Bram and myself. Thus Frontier Fleet found itself with a new 'command team', or in this case a Council. But with the new Council trying to get used to running the fleet, there were still some matters to attend to.
And yet, all dutystations went their own way after this, as usual. Not a lot changed in Frontier Fleet, except several behind-the-scenes things, like the posting guide. Most of the things the Council worked on was trying to find out how to run a game like this the best way they / we could.
FWM.
Ah, the FWM. Remember? All the Captains being kidnapped and put through tests, the dutystations -without their Captains- under attack by alien weapons. In the beginning of 2006, the Captains returned to the dutystations. . . but all in different order! Sarin was sent to the Atlantis, as well as Kane. Torn was put on Pandora Station, Maiek to the Calhoun, and the Valkyrie received Captain Bennek. What a chaos that was!
Academy Commandant.
It was in the beginning of February that a new 'problem' came to be: I decided to step down as Academy Commandant. I had been thinking about that for a long time, and I had finally decided to do what was best for me. Not that I didn't like being AcadCM, but it just cost too much time. So a replacement needed to be found. And indeed, a month later, Martin Miller was chosen as Academy Commandant. But that didn't mean that he would become AcadCM immediately. No, there were some training sessions he needed to undergo before he could take that position. It wasn't until mid-July that Martin officially became Frontier Fleet's Academy Commandant.
Pandora Station.
Pandora. In late-June 2006, the Station went from PC status to SPC status. Why was that actually? Why did the Council decide that this would happen? Well, there were a number of reasons for this. First of all, the number of players in Frontier Fleet was dropping, as well as the activity of some of those members. Something had to be done, otherwise there wouldn't be enough people to man all dutystations. This was already true on Pandora Station, where we had quite some vacancies.
It was then that the Council thought up the idea of transforming one of the dutystations to SPC status. That way, all the PC crew of that dutystation would be transferred to the rest of the PC dutystations, and those dutystations would then have some more (active) crew. Ultimately, the fact that Pandora Station was (and is) Fleet HeadQuarters, made it easier for the Council to turn Pandora into SPC, than it would be to turn any other dutystation into an SPC dutystation.
So the 25th of June 2006, the final mission was over, and the PCs were transferred to other dutystations. Pandora Station was officially a SPC dutystation now, where SPCs could roam around freely in their natural environment.
New COs, FOs and 2Os.
In 2006, there were a lot of changes in command positions. For example, the Valkyrie's CO left. Brandon Allard had been CO for a while already, but even he couldn't cope with the curse of the Valkyrie's CO position. So his replacement became Dennis Church, formerly FO of the Odyssey. Dennis' FO on board the Valkyrie would be Jon Hardy, and Rick Clogston complemented the command team of the Valk as 2O.
But then a FO place was open on board the Odyssey. With the closure of Pandora Station as PC station though, I brought in my FO character from Pandora to the Odyssey.
The Atlantis suffered the departure of their trusted Second Officer: Hanna Brundefeldt. So far, no replacement has been chosen yet.
Story Arc.
Ah, surprise surprise! The Council's been talking about a potential story arc for quite a while now. We wanted to create some sort of story arc so that the dutystations wouldn't be just separate dutystations, but part of a Fleet: the Frontier Fleet. Hence, we thought up some story arc ideas. The ideas themselves are still classified though (Muahahaha! :P) so unfortunately I cannot tell you any more about those.
However, also consider this a request to the command teams (and to all of you reading this, actually) to try to do missions where other dutystations have left off. For example, the Odyssey could do a mission about the Atlantis' L'tari, and the Calhoun could do a mission about a Breen involvement in the Orion underworld which the Valkyrie has previously explored. Something like that. These are of course just suggestions... ;-)
Looking ahead.
When looking ahead, I see a bright future for Frontier Fleet. Sure, we'll face some difficulties. But that's inevitable. However, when I see the level of story-telling everyone's doing now, I cannot help but be optimistic. There are so many good stories being told throughout the fleet. As long as we keep that our top priority, I'm sure Frontier Fleet will produce many, many more of such thrilling, exciting, intriguing posts. Keep it up everyone, also in 2007!
