(|Elogium|)
Kes undergoes premature Elogium. In Ocampan women, Elogium is the time of change, when the body prepares for fertilization. It usually happens between the ages of four and five. The Elogium occurs only once. Fertilization has to be made within 40 to 50 hours of onset of the Elogium. During Elogium, the Mitral sac develops on the woman's back. The ipasaphor is a yellow sticky substance on the hands of Ocampan women during the Elogium. The ipasaphor makes the mating bond possible. After the ipasaphor appears they have only 50 hours to begin the process. Before the mating, the female has to go through a ritual called the rolisisin. When mating, Ocampans must stay bonded for six days in order to ensure conception. Other symptoms include craving strange foods, even eating things generally not considered food, elevated temperature, and elevated levels of electrophoretic activity in the nervous system. (VOY: Elogium)
