(|Posting Guide|)
StarTrek Frontier Fleet is a Star Trek role-playing game that is played by e-mail. This means that every player writes posts about his/her character to let that character participate in the story.

This document contains the following sections:
    Posting Format
There are a few guidelines about what a post should look like and how certain things should be formatted. These are described in this section.

    Posting Etiquette
This section contains several other useful guidelines for posting. It's not just the format that makes a post a good post.

    Posting Method
This section describes a way how you can write your posts, illustrated with a diagram created by a former Academy Commandant, Walter Flaat.

(|Mailing lists|)
When you are assigned to a dutystation in ST Frontier Fleet, you will be subscribed to three mailinglists:
  • An RPG list (dutystation at frontierfleet.net; also .com/.org; dutystation includes the USS prefix for ships)
Via this list you'll receive the dutystation's posts, which means that all messages sent here must follow the Posting Format as described in this document.

  • An NRPG list (dutystation_nrpg at frontierfleet.net; no USS here)
This list is for all other game-related communication among a dutystation's crew. Here there are no rules about the format of course (but the usual rules still apply of course: no spam, chain letters, etc.)

  • A Compiles list (dutystation-compiles at frontierfleet.net)
Via this list you'll receive compiles, a compilation of posts from a certain period (a week, sometimes more) with everything put into chronological order, and sometimes with (small) changes to fix timeline errors for example.
Note: Not all dutystations have compiles.
An overview of all RPG and NRPG lists:
 Dutystation RPG list NRPG list
=====================================================
 USS Calhoun usscalhoun calhoun_nrpg
 USS Odyssey ussodyssey odyssey_nrpg
 USS Valkyrie ussvalkyrie valkyrie_nrpg
 USS Atlantis ussatlantis atlantis_nrpg
 Pandora Station pandora pandora_nrpg

Some important notes
  • The lists are set up that all incoming mail is converted to plain text. Do not rely on this feature though, the conversion can make the mail unreadable in some cases, and HTML email is often several times bigger than the plain text equivalent; this can cause the mailinglist to reject your message when it is too big.
Look here for a longer explanation, and look here how to send as plain text.
  • It's not possible to send attachments to the lists, but that is rarely needed anyway. If you need to send a file to someone else, contact that person first to find out the best way to get the file delivered.
  • Avoid using the Reply button when you are replying to a post to the RPG list. It is quite easy to forget to remove the 'Re:' from the subject line, and this will cause the RPG list to reject your post. Another possibility is that it is also quite easy to forget to change the To: address and in most cases your post will be sent to one person only instead of the list. The best way to avoid this, is to simply start a new mail for every post.
This of course does not apply when you are replying to a post in an NRPG manner, but then your mail should be sent to the author of the other post or the NRPG list anyway.
