An Antican delegate aboard the USS Enterprise-D.
(| Physiology |)
Anticans have canine like faces, leathery skin, and their skulls are enlarged in the rear. They are mostly bald, but have long, shaggy sideburns, eyebrows and moustaches. Their arms and perhaps other parts of their body are covered in fur. Their breathing is raspy.

Their eyesight is highly developed, and they can see in near-darkness. They also have keen hearing. They are slightly taller than human average, between 1.7 and 2.5 meters. They have narrow rib-cages and haunch-like legs.
(| History |)
The Antican homeworld is the planet Antica in the Beta Renner system. Antica possesses a slightly higher than normal gravity (1.1 G) and an oxygen-nitrogen atmosephere. The terrain is predominantly steppe land and forest. The Beta Renner system is also home to the Selay. Since achieving space flight the Anticans and the Selay have become deadly enemies.

The Anticans and the Selay applied for membership in the Federation in 2364, requiring that they work out their differences. After several arduous months of negotiations, both sides agreed to a treaty, and soon afterward the Anticans were granted Federation membership.

The Anticans have had contact with the Ferengi prior to joining the Federation.
(| Society |)
The Anticans eat meat, and the animals must be brought to them live. They find the idea of replicated meat sickening.

Anticans do not use the furniture in their quarters. They sit on the floor and lean up against the furniture.

In situations where an established pecking order exists, Anticans are are deferential to those in command. However, when presented with an opportnity to assert dominance or improve status, such as a weak leader, they can be quick-tempered and argumentative. The typical Antican is fiercely loyal to his friends.

The Antican culture revolves around the hunt, which family groups joining into packs to pursue the planet's abundant animal life. Chasing, killing and consuming prey is a social exercize. The more spirited the prey, the better the meal. Anticans consume their meals according to a strict hierarchy, beginning with the the strongest male, and then proceeding in order of social importance.

Antican society organizes around a strong central leader. Memebers look for the strongest Antican (male or female) in any group. Government leaders follow a pack-dominance structure - the candidate who successfully intimidates all of the other candidates assumes leadership. Whenever thrust into a new social situation or group, Anticans instinctively try to determine who is the strongest in the group. This commonly takes the form of verbal sparring and posturing, those these challenges sometimes escalate as enraged contenders strike out physically.

Anticans speak raagaan. Every Antican has two names - a social (group) name and a private name.

Thanks to their canine ancestry, they have the ability to chase down prey over long distances. Their lack of discipline combined with the influence of strong feral instinct leads them to neglect their education.

Anticans feel threatened by challenges to their position and status. Questioning them too closely, making threatening moves such as, looking them in the eye, standing too close, etc, and insulting them can cause them to lose their composure.
(| Fashion |)
When among non-Anticans, they wear long flowing robes, but among their own kind, they wear form-fitting clothing (especially when hunting).
